DAAD Programme Assistant

Ni’mati Dmeiry studied German as a Foreign Language and Business Administration at Birzeit University.  She works as an assistant at the DAAD  Information Centre office in East Jerusalem. One of her responsibilities is managing the DAAD Website and Social Media. She also plays a role in supporting and assisting with the organization’s events. With her position she will contribute to the DAAD programme and gain experience.

DAAD at Birzeit University

DAAD Longterm Lecturer

Dr. Anja Zorob is associate professor at Birzeit University and a research fellow at the Muwatin Institute for Democracy and Human Rights. She currently teaches in the Master Programme Democracy and Human Rights. She studied in Freiburg, Damascus and Bochum and received her PhD in Contemporary Research on the Middle East from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. Anja Zorob has been working in different positions at, among others, the Center for Middle Eastern & North African Studies at Freie Universität Berlin, the Institute of Development Research and Development Policy (IEE) and the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA). In the years 2016-2018 she headed the project University without Borders at RUB. Her main research interests cover Arab/MENA countries’ regional integration, political economy and development in addition to conflict and reconstruction in the Middle East as well as European foreign policy (Euro-Mediterranean, Neighbourhood) with a focus on trade, development cooperation, flight and migration.

DAAD Lecturer

Ruth Pappenhagen studied German Language and Literature and Philosophy and received her Master’s degree in 2009 from the University of Hamburg. From 2013 to 2014 Ruth worked as a DAAD-language assistant at Univerzita J.E.Purkyně, Ústí nad Labem (Czech Republic). From 2009-2013 and 2015-2017 she was a research assistant at the University of Hamburg, working in the field of multilingualism which is still her research interest. Since 2018 she works as a DAAD Lecturer at Birzeit University.

DAAD Language Assistant

Leila Amer studied German Studies and History at the Albert-Ludwigs University in Freiburg. She also worked there as a research assistant in the field of multilingualism. Since September 2021 she is working as the DAAD language assistant in the Birzeit University. She is teaching German language courses for beginners.

DAAD at Al-Quds University

DAAD Lecturer

Nicole Steinsiepen will start to work from September 2021 as a DAAD Lecturer at Al-Quds University in Jerusalem. From 2011 to 2016 she studied “International Literature” and “Languages, History and Cultures of the Middle East” at the University of Tübingen (B.A.). She then began her master’s degree in “German as a Foreign/ Second Language and Intercultural German Studies” at the University of Freiburg, which she successfully completed in the summer of 2019. During her studies, Ms. Steinsiepen worked as a research assistant at the chair for “Modern German Literature”. From 2019 to 2021 Nicole Steinsiepen was a DAAD teaching assistant in the Department of European languages ​​at the University of Jordan.

DAAD at Bethlehem University

Jutta Häser

DAAD Longterm Lecturer

Dr. Jutta Häser is assistant professor at the Bethlehem University where she teaches Near Eastern Archaeology and Cultural Heritage at the Humanities Department. She studied Near Eastern Archaeology, Prehistory, Cuneiform Studies and Archaeometry in Göttingen, Aarhus/Denmark and Berlin. She carried out interdisciplinary research in Germany, Italy, Sudan and various countries in the Middle East. She worked as research assistant for the German Institute of Archaeology in Berlin and as director and project manager for the German Protestant Institute of Archaeology in the Holy Land in Amman. Her main research interest is long-term settlement history during the Bronze and Iron Ages as well as the Byzantine and Early Islamic period.
